For YOU, the maintainer, the “Red Dot® “ Timing Mark Projector. Designed to magnetically clip to the 15.5 in. starter ring of Lycoming engines. The projector, as aligned with the timing marks off the AFT surface of the starter ring can then be brought around by prop bumps and projected onto the CL of the engine case. Conversely, the “red dot” of the engine CL can be used in reverse to determine where engine timing is for a particular magneto. Used during magneto timing operations, this provides a visual and repeatable determination of timing mark alignment. Designed and distributed in the USA by Swearingen 3D works of Marion IOWA, the "Red Dot™” Timing Mark Projector is tested and now in first use by our A&P staff at C17. Made to order, it is now prepared just for you and your bird.

Shown within the pictures is the "Projector" touching the 25 degree BTDC mark on the starter ring and its alignment “red dot” projection to the engine case CL of a Lycoming O-320. The tool is also a means to time E-Mag installations timed to TDC or slightly after, on either a compression or exhaust stoke for any cylinder. Secondly, aircraft oil is naturally fluorescent in long-wave ultraviolet light (UV-A), making even the smallest amount of oil easy to spot. In addition to the laser projector, the unit also contains a UV flashlight and a normal white flashlight.
