Made by a pilot for formation pilots, the “COMMS CENTER” THROTTLE consists of a throttle grip with your selection of switch logic. The original design consists of a three channel COMMS paddle switch. Per an F-16 driver customer requirement, we provide the switch/throttle overlay which is capable of a push FWD to transmit on COMM1, pull AFT to transmit on COMM2 and a resting center position for ICS. The configuration now provided to the fleet was made specifically for an IDF-440 COMM1, a Dynon COMM2, both going through a Garmin 345 audio panel. The throttle grip consists of a 4.3 inch 3D printed “LH CONFORMAL THROTTLE” grip, made to slide over the existing throttle tube of the VANs RV-8 /8A throttle quadrants CT- 82F, and 83F (as pictured). The throttle adequately clears the existing PROP knob and still retains the throttle ergonomics of the original VANs throttle quadrant.

The grip is manufactured in the USA by Swearingen 3D works of Marion IA., packaged in the USA and distributed by the designer. Everything you order is prepared just for you, only after you order. Upon order, your configuration options are checked and incorporated, final assembly completed, and continuity checks performed to assure the value and performance I have designed for you.

It comes complete with functionally tested and wired three position, tactile feel, COMMS switch. Your COMMS switch is contained within the inboard grip face, and is operated by the pad of the left-hand thumb. The wire bundle exits the outboard end of the overlay and routes down the forward side of the throttle lever internal to supplied heat shrink tubing. The throttle race receives the bundle which goes forward to aircraft systems.

The throttle overlay comes finished in cured urethane and finished in a military flat black, clear black insert and clear black inboard grip face with COMMS identifiers... (RV-8 CT-43F Throttle quadrant shown in pictures, not included in sale).

  • COMMS paddle switch orientation comes standard in a horizontal configuration, thus allowing a COMM1 (FWD, ICS (CTR), COMM2 (AFT) configuration, or as defined by customer selection on the order page..

  • The switch is mounted within the grip, wired and provided with 20 inches of 22 AWG, Shielded TEFZEL, four conductor (3.52 mm), functionally tested wire harness for the (ON)-ON-(ON) configuration. The other option with NONE center only requires a three conductor (3.04mm) wire harness.
