Some aircraft are equipped with an ALTERNATE AIR Source for engine operations. If a pilot inadvertently enters icing conditions, The engine air intake could become clogged, resulting in engine roughness and possible failure. Indications of a clogged air intake manifold are engine roughness and a decrease in manifold pressure. If a pilot suspects a clogged air intake manifold, activate the ALTERNATE AIR Source by pulling the yellow ALTERNATE AIR Source knob, which is located within the left throttle quadrant.. Pulling the knob opens the alternate air induction door on the engine induction manifold, bypassing the air filter, allowing warm unfiltered air to enter the engine. Select ALT AIR to ON if ice is seen to be forming on the aircraft leading edges. Select ALT AIR to OFF once ice is no longer forming or before landing.

The ALTERNATE AIR Source Knob consists of a 1.1 in, 3D printed ALTERNATE knob, scaled around FAR 23.781 guidance.and made to be compatible with the VANs RV-3, -4, and -8 /8A throttle quadrants CT-42F, CT-43F and CT- 82F, 83F and 81R (as pictured). The ALTERNATE AIR knob is available in one of two configurations, a triangular cross section ora cubic cross section for your selection..

This is an ALTERNATE AIR Source Knob that provides a remove and replace option of the spheres on your CT series of VANs throttle quadrants. (RV-4 CT-43F Throttle quadrant shown in pictures, not included in sale).
