Made by a pilot for pilots, the “SAIL FIN” consists of a lever mounted overlay containing a TO/GA switch. The component is designed and manufactured in the USA by Swearingen 3D works of Marion IA., packaged in the USA and distributed by the designer. Everything you order is prepared just for you, only after you order. Upon order, your configuration options are checked and incorporated, final assembly completed, and continuity checks performed to assure the value and performance I have designed for you.

Inspired by an SSN submarine sail, The “SAIL FIN” overlay consists of a 1.9 inch 3D printed overlay which mounts below the throttle quadrant “Tube” or “T” handle of the Vans CT82/83F, SMCT2L/3L or CMCT2L/3L throttle quadrants (as pictured) for the Vans RV-6/6A, 7/7A, 9/9A, 10, 12 and 14 . Affixed either to the front or rear side of the throttle lever, a functionally wired TO/GA switch is contained within the overlay, and is operated by the center finger of the left or right pilot. If located on the front side of the throttle lever, finger spacing exists around the throttle and sufficient for the middle finger of either hand of the pilot/pilots to have relaxed access to the switch for activation. The switch itself is a switch that requires a few mm movement before a position requiring breakout force to activate the switch so therefore, the switch requires positive action to activate and is not prone to unintentional activation.

The “SAIL FIN” overlay is sized to adequately clear the PROP or MIXTURE control knob while still retaining the throttle ergonomics of the original VANs throttle quadrant. The “SAIL FIN” overlay is also tailored to permit full throttle and idle cutoff angles on both the horizontal throttle bezel of the Vans CT82F/83F throttle quadrant and the curved throttle bezel of the Vans CMCT2L, SMCT2L/3L throttle quadrant.

The overlay comes complete with a functionally tested and wired TO/GA switch with installation harness and attachment hardware. (RV-7 CMCT2L Throttle quadrant shown in pictures, not included in sale).

MIXTURE and PROP control knobs: Found also within this site are applicable FAR 23.781 PROP and MIXTURE control knobs (shown in pictures) that provide a weight reduction, size increase and remove/replace option to your anodized aluminum prop and mixture control knobs. The red MIXTURE control knob and blue PROP control knob are sold separately within the SHOP area of this website.
